Phoung Trang

Thursday, July 29, 2010

I've been going to a vietnamese-chinese restarant called  Phoung Trang with my family since who knows when (middle school?). Usually when we go as a family (cousins, uncles, aunts, dad, etc) we order the usual that would feed a family of 5-6, so there was no need to look at the menu. Plus...I was picky.

Fast forward a few years.

When my cousin invited me to go with her a few weeks ago, it was the first time I gazed through the menu with my new perspective on food. Before I ever discovered food blogs, I never appreciated food like I do now. I love to try something new, I like discover a new plant or cuisine from a different culture. I like to savor and admire my food rather than demolish it in a minute flat. Food brings people together that's for sure, everything I do revolves around food. I can't stop thinking about it, smelling it, and tasting it (duh). Food is fascinating to me.

(on the tangent) But cooking shows like (I forget the name) on the food network really pisses me off! "That bacon in his soup was too soft, I expected it to be crispy, not fatty."

WTH? first of all that bacon is in a damn soup! of course it's gonna be soft doofus! and since when was bacon not fatty?! GAH! critics! Some people just like to talk, it hits a nerve sometimes...but I digress.

Anyway where was I? Oh yeah. After gazing at the menu, I vowed to myself that I would BE BACK.

The second time I went with Ashley. We decided to split the dish, which was a regret because it was so dang gewddd! We ordered the sizzlin' steak, and we heard that steak sizzlin' from the moment the waiter walked out that door.

"shhh, you hear that? I think that's our food." I think the whole restarant (at least on our side) went silent to marvel at our cow.

mmm, with butter. Sometimes a bit of butter is fine in my world. The meat was tender and not chewy at all! So tender it practically melted in my mouth. I had leftovers today at work, I did not mircowave it, YES, I ate it cold. I think there is a rule to what left overs are deemed non-mircowavable. Cold Pizza. yes....

Cold pizza is the only thing on my mind that is an A-Ok to eat cold, anything else I'm missing??

well...if I can't find any excuse for what is deemed good or bad, then just dismiss it. Cold beef is okay in my books for now. But that cold beef tasted just as good, but not better!

Tonight after work, my mom wanted sushi. She was being nice. I like it when she's nice. Anyway I suggested Phoung Trang instead, she's never heard of it. Shame.

Bored sister

Estatic me!

Pork, shrimp, and Jellyfish salad. Yummm!
You heard that right.

Incase you were curious as I was, this my friend is part of a jellyfish.
I've been stung by a stingray before, I don't recommend it. I'm pretty sure getting stung by these son of a b's is just as painful.

The texture was rubbery, but it meshed well with the salad.

Sour soup

We got a family special that fed three. We had plenty of leftovers.
Clams. yuuum. The broth was amazing, amazing enough to be eatten with rice by itself.

Salted Catfish in a hot pot.

My dish!

mmmmm, my favorite!

I love your blogs! I want to try jellyfish salad... what wine pairs well with jellyfish? Perhaps a riesling?
